The Peculiar Water Glasses: how to choose them and how to maintain them

The water glass is the first thing offered when a person enters our home.
Raise your hand if you have never offered it or put it on the table for lunch or dinner.
But how do you choose particular water glasses or how do you arrange them at the table?
We answer these questions within our article.

How do you place water glasses at the table?

Water glasses, according to the Etiquette, must be strictly all the same for the table participants.
On the web, many articles report this standard rule, but there are also exceptions: in many cases the idea of glasses differing from each other has been cleared and is even encouraged to give a sense of freshness and personalization to the table.
We at Simpleday.co.uk have chosen the first option, but many retailers instead allow our glasses to be chosen following the Mix & Match approach.
But where should they be arranged?
Simply In front of the goblets and wine glasses: in fact often (if not always) water glasses are tumblers, so without stems. Arranging them therefore behind stemware with stems could be risky because it would cause the taller glasses to fall over.

How do you choose the water glasses?

They can be colored water glasses, or modern water glasses, the important thing is that they are made of glass.
Over the years the transparent water glasses have become increasingly popular, and often times the glass's distinctive convexity or workmanship has given way to a cooler approach featuring silkscreen printing.
Screen printing is a decorative method that imprints the lettering or design directly on the surface, creating distinctive water glasses.

Why do glasses dull in the dishwasher? Here's how to solve it

There are many causes that can create opacity in glass. Fortunately, this is a common phenomenon so there are various remedies to solve it.
Let's start with the first case: the use of too much detergent.
When you use too much detergent, especially powdered detergent, you can fuel the creation of limescale. Not only that, more aggressive detergents can also ruin the decoration of the glass.
I wrong dishwasher programs.
There is a reason why dishwashers have a dedicated program for glass: it does not exceed 40°, so the temperatures perfectly match the material the dishwasher contains. It is best to avoid temperatures above 50° when washing glassware.
Water hardness causes limescale..
If your home is in an area with very limey water, it means that it contains a lot of minerals, which settle on the glass and create a kind of patina that decreases the effectiveness of the detergent itself.
Performing periodic cleaning of the dishwasher can help counteract water hardness.
